The Connecticut Center for Effective Practice (CCEP) works to enhance the effectiveness of treatments provided to all children with serious and complex developmental, emotional, behavioral and addictive disorders through the development, training, dissemination and evaluation of effective models of practice. CCEP is a unique public/private partnership between CHDI and the Department of Children and Families, the Court Support Services Division, the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut Health Center, and the Yale Child Study Center.

The Early Childhood DataCONNections project is designed to promote well-informed decisions on policies and programs for young children by improving state agencies’ research capabilities. To achieve this goal, DataCONNections is building a strong, sustainable research infrastructure by demonstrating the potential of state administrative data to answer key early childhood policy questions, and publishing and disseminating information on how state agencies can achieve data and research enhancements. DataCONNections is a public/private partnership of CHDI and the Department of Social Services(DSS).

CHDI, in partnership with the CT Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the CT Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians, launched this training initiative to inform pediatricians and their staff about critical children’s health issues onsite at their own offices.

CHDI is dedicated to ensuring that the behavioral health concerns of children and their families are effectively addressed in pediatric and primary care practices. Specifically, CHDI is working to identify and promote effective behavior health screening, interventions, and referral methods in the primary care setting.

As described by the American Academy of Pediatrics, a medical home is a model of primary care that is “accessible, continuous, comprehensive, family-centered, coordinated, compassionate and culturally effective.” It is not a building, house, or hospital, but rather an approach to providing health care services in a high-quality and cost-effective manner. CHDI is working to ensure that every child in Connecticut has access to a medical home, and that children and families make good use of them.

CHDI is pursuing the development of a statewide multi-disciplinary child care consultation system as one strategy for ensuring that young children receive the health and behavioral health services they need. Multi-disciplinary child care consultation refers to professional guidance or services delivered onsite at a child care program. Currently, the disciplines included in this model are health, mental health, and education.

CHDI has convened four private foundations in Connecticut that have pooled their resources to select and provide funding and technical assistance to two projects serving young children and families in four communities. The funding is intended to help these community-based programs strengthen the links between health services and other early childhood programs and supports, especially early care and education sites.
