Suicide Prevention Resources Available at KidsMentalHealthInfo.com

In response to the widely seen Netflix series depicting teen suicide (Thirteen Reasons Why), and concerns from health and mental health professionals that this series may increase children's risk for suicidal and self-harming behaviors, we compiled links to important suicide prevention resources in Connecticut and nationally. Parents should also be aware of the dangerous Blue Whale Challenge App that targets vulnerable youth.

If you're concerned about a young person who may be contemplating suicide or who may have other mental health concerns, you can:

Dial 2-1-1 to reach the Mobile Crisis Intervention Service (also known as EMPS)

Visit The CT Suicide Advisory Board website: www.preventsuicidect.org

Call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255

A more extensive compilation of suicide prevention resources, including discussion points for parents on the Netflix series, can be found in the resource section of CHDI's website for parents and caregivers: KidsMentalHealthInfo.com

In addition to resources on suicide prevention, please visit KidsMentalHealthInfo.com for information on a variety of children's mental health topics, as well as a directory of children's mental health providers trained in several trauma-informed evidence-based practices available in Connecticut.

CHDI also offers a free one-hour training on suicide prevention to pediatricians, school nurses, and other pediatric health providers through the Educating Practices program.
