Our Work - EPIC

EPIC

Educating Practices in their Communities

CHDI, in partnership with the CT Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the CT Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians, launched this training initiative to inform pediatricians and their staff about critical children’s health issues - right in the comfort of their own offices. This model of "academic detailing," brings together a variety of topics under one training umbrella. Currently, there are 10 EPIC training modules:

  • Care Coordination in the Medical Home
  • Collaborative Health Care: From Vision to Practice
  • Family-Professional Partnerships in the Medical Home
  • Connecting Children to Behavioral Health Services
  • Children's Behavior Problems: Brief Office Interventions
  • Developmental Surveillance & Help Me Grow
  • Teen Driver Safety
  • Child Abuse Prevention
  • Oral Health
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
The EPIC program provides office-based education using trained peer professionals to make onsite, in-office presentations about specific issues in child health and development to both physicians and their staff. Two components contribute to the uniqueness of this model:

  •  Its focus on the education of the entire office team, including nurses, physicians and receptionists, by a practicing primary care physician
  • The emphasis on practice change using clinical information and practical office tools
