Early care and education workforce
Currently, useful information on the qualifications, compensation, recruitment and retention of the early care and education workforce is fragmented and incomplete. To address this issue, DataCONNections is identifying research gaps and filling in some of those gaps through new data collection, changes in the way data is recorded in state databases and new analyses of existing data. The primary objectives of this project are to:
Develop baseline data
- Develop a methodology for collecting and
analyzing the data
- Identify the areas where new or expanded efforts are needed to meet the demand for a trained early care and education workforce
- Produce analyses that show trends and the relationships between qualifications, compensation and turnover among different provider types
To date, DataCONNections has completed three
reports. The first, entitled A
Research Perspective on the Child Care Workforce in Connecticut,
outlines existing information on the early care and education workforce
in Connecticut and highlights the gaps in research and analysis.
The other two reports provide 1) a profile of the Head Start workforce
and 2) an analysis of compensation and health benefits in the child
care industry.
