The CT Training Calendar For Early Care and Education

Training for child care workers and parents is critical to the healthy development of young children. Yet, it is often difficult for child care professionals and parents to know where, when or what kind of training is being offered. Currently, training is provided by a number of state agencies and not-for-profit organizations concerned about children, but there is no accessible means for people to obtain information about training. We hope to change that. In March 2003, the Training Resource Academy launched a statewide Training and Event Calendar to track training opportunities for all providers of care for young children. Working with state agencies and independent organizations that offer training to staff, parents and other caregivers, the calendar acts as a statewide clearinghouse that permits anyone to know at a glance what training is being offered and by which agency or organization. It also enables those who need training to know who is eligible for particular training programs, and where and when it is being held.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Organizations that either provide training or are responsible for providing information to the public and provider communities are invited to post their training offerings on the calendar, which is kept up to date by the Training Resource Academy. The calendar has the capability of both linking to the sites of member training organizations and actually signing people up for programming online. The Training Calendar is located at www.greatkidsCT.org, the State Library’s website about young children. This site is a place where parents and other caregivers, as well as child care professionals, can find information about children’s health and development that synthesizes the fragments and pieces that constitute early care and education in Connecticut.

We believe everyone in Connecticut who cares for or provides services to children should be well informed about training opportunities and that the quality of care will benefit from quality training. With a central training information system, we anticipate that we might begin to have a picture of what kinds of training are being offered in the state and, perhaps equally important, what is not currently available. It also provides ideas on how to better improve access to training throughout the state, using the quality resources that are already available.

WE INVITE ANY ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES TRAINING FOR PROVIDERS OF CARE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN TO PLACE THEIR EVENTS AND PROGRAMS ON THE TRAINING CALENDAR.
