Board of Directors
The CHDI Board of Directors is appointed by the Children’s Fund Board and includes representatives from academia, state government, the business and finance community and parent advocates. Board members provide perspectives from a range of professions including pediatrics, psychiatry, nursing, education, law and business.
The CHDI Board of Directors is chaired by Margaret Grey, DrPH, RN, FAAN, Annie Goodrich Professor of Nursing, Yale School of Nursing.
Andrew Agwunobi, MD, MBA

Dr. Andrew Agwunobi is the Chief Executive Officer and the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs for UConn Health system. In this role he is responsible for University of Connecticut’s clinical enterprise a $1-billion operation, which includes John Dempsey Hospital, 10 UConn Health clinics and 5,529 faculty and staff.

Jennifer Carroll is a parent of a child with special health care needs. She is a member of the Connecticut Family Support Network (CTFSN) Board of Directors, a statewide advocacy organization providing direct support and broad advocacy to families raising children with disabilities and special health care needs.

Eddie Keith is a vice president in Landmarks private equity group. His primary responsibilities include financial modeling, underwriting, and general assessment of prospective and active transactions. Secondary responsibilities include assistance in the origination and negotiation process of private equity investments.
Linda Mayes, MD

Linda Mayes, MD is the Arnold Gesell Professor of Child Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and Psychology and Director of the Yale Child Study Center. She is also Special Advisor to the Dean in the Yale School of Medicine.
James E. Shmerling

James E. Shmerling DHA, FACHE was named President and Chief Executive Officer at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center on October 1, 2015. For over three decades, Jim has served in management roles in children’s hospitals and is nationally recognized as a leader in issues concerning children’s health and wellness.

Jeff Vanderploeg is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Child Health and Development Institute of Connecticut and its parent organization the Children's Fund of Connecticut. He joined CHDI in 2009 and was appointed President and CEO of CHDI on October 1, 2017 and President and CEO of the Children's Fund on October 1, 2018. Jeff serves on the CHDI Board of Directors.
