CHDI Staff Members Co-Author Article in Child Maltreatment Journal

CHDI’s Jason Lang and Kim Campbell are co-authors of an article published in Child Maltreatment, a premier academic journal disseminating original research, information and technical innovations on child abuse and neglect. The article, ”Building Capacity for Trauma-Informed Care in the Child Welfare System: Initial Results of a Statewide Implementation” reviews how the first three years of the federally funded Connecticut Collaborative on Effective Practices for Trauma (CONCEPT) initiative improved child welfare staff knowledge and practice regarding child trauma.

CONCEPT is a five-year federal grant awarded in 2011 to Connecticut’s Department of Children and Families (DCF) by the Administration for Children and Families to support development of a trauma-informed child welfare system. The initiative is collaboration between DCF, CHDI, The Yale Child Study Center, The Consultation Center at Yale, family advocates and community providers. CHDI serves as the Coordinating Center. Through CONCEPT, DCF has made significant progress towards creating a trauma-informed child welfare system that is can better serve children exposed to abuse, neglect, violence, and other forms of trauma.
