Infant Mental Health Competencies

BUILDING AN EXPERT WORKFORCE

From 2010 - 2019, CHDI helped the Connecticut Association of Infant Mental Health (CT-AIMH) build a system for Connecticut to support a competency-based early childhood workforce. This effort was based on the CT-AIMH Endorsement (IMH-E®), which recognizes and documents the development of infant and family professionals within an organized system of culturally sensitive, relationship-based, infant mental health learning and work experiences.

Through this effort, the number of professionals endorsed in Connecticut has expanded over the last decade resulting in more of the State’s child-serving programs and systems being able to support and advance the social and emotional development of children beginning in their earliest years.

The following CHDI publications provide information about infant and early childhood mental health, the competencies and endorsement process and efforts underway to build a trained workforce in Connecticut.
