Shannon Houston, MSW
Director of Communications
Shannon Houston joined CHDI in 2023 as Communications Manager and was promoted to Director of Communications in 2025. In this role, she leads development and implementation of integrated communications, marketing, and public relations strategies to advance and build awareness of the organization’s mission, priorities, and work. She also provides training and advice to leadership and staff across the organization on effective communications practices.
Shannon has nearly two decades of experience in nonprofit communications, fundraising, and community project management. Prior to joining CHDI, Shannon spent four years as an independent communications consultant and freelancer for nonprofits and mental health providers, and previously led communications and fundraising for the Connecticut Fair Housing Center and Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford. She holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree with a concentration in community organizing from the UConn School of Social Work and a BA in Writing from Ithaca College.
