Connect with us at the 2025 Training Institutes

News

The 2025 Training Institutes – hosted by our longtime partners at the UConn School of Social Work’s Innovations Institute – is less than two weeks away!

This national conference, Building a World Where Young People Thrive, will bring together approximately 1,000 providers, policymakers, researchers, family and youth leaders, educators, and others working at the federal, state, and local levels to transform systems, programs, and services for children, youth, and families.

CHDI is proud to support this year's conference, set for July 6 - 10 in National Harbor, MD, as both a sponsor and presenter.  Together with our Connecticut partners, CHDI will share research and insights on a range of children's behavioral health topics.

"We are excited to join the many others at the 2025 Training Institutes who are working towards the same goal of building a brighter future for youth and families,” says CHDI President and CEO Jeff Vanderploeg, PhD.

Sharing what we've learned

Sixteen CHDI staff - along with partners from the state of Connecticut, FAVOR, our community-based provider network, and others - will present ten workshops, six "data points" presentations, and one three-hour Institute at this year's gathering. They will share data, strategies, and solutions focused on strengthening children’s behavioral health systems and services across a variety of areas, including:

  • Behavioral Health Workforce Development Policy (3-hour Institute): In light of nationwide workforce challenges, CHDI's Aleece Kelly will join representatives from the Connecticut Department of Children and Families and Case Western Reserve University in this three-hour Institute unpacking key strategies states around the country are using to address workforce recruitment, retention, and funding.

  • Expanding Access to Evidence-Based Practices: See how CHDI is using statewide data to address barriers in access and outcomes and ensure evidence-based behavioral health treatments are working for children and youth across different backgrounds.

  • Quality Improvement: Learn about data-driven quality improvement (QI) approaches that are improving access, quality, and outcomes in statewide behavioral health services and systems.

  • School Mental Health Systems: Learn strategies to help build schools' capacity to support student behavioral health, reduce exclusionary discipline and integrate restorative, trauma-informed practices, and connect to community-based services like mobile crisis.

  • Trauma Screening Across Child-Serving Systems: Participate in a hands-on workshop (based on CHDI's Trauma ScreenTIME course) to learn how to develop an evidence-based trauma screening process for any child-serving setting.

  • Urgent Crisis Centers & Mobile Crisis Services: Explore how Connecticut’s urgent crisis centers and statewide mobile crisis response system work together to meet youth crisis needs—and how a strong quality improvement infrastructure has improved outcomes.
