Ten Years Later: An Updated Critical Look at Trauma Informed Care Among Agencies and Systems Serving Youth and Their Families

Peer-Reviewed
PEER-REVIEWED PUBLICATION

CHDI's Jason Lang, PhD and colleague Rochelle Hanson, PhD, of the Medical University of South Carolina, edited a May 2026 special section in the journal of Child Maltreatment that provides an overview of the current state of trauma-informed care (TIC), including four papers that contribute to the evidence base for TIC across a range of child-serving settings.

Drs. Lang and Hanson co-authored the introduction to the special section, "Ten Years Later: An Updated Critical Look at Trauma Informed Care Among Agencies and Systems Serving Youth and Their Families." They describe the growing interest in TIC among child-serving systems and settings, summarize progress in related research, and identify knowledge gaps that remain in the field. They also make recommendations for advancing the science to improve benefits for youth and families who have experienced trauma.
