CBITS & Bounce Back Annual Report - FY 2025

Annual CBITS & Bounce Back Report Shows Continued Positive Outcomes

Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) and Bounce Back (BB) are short-term, evidence-based, group interventions for children and youth who have experienced trauma. CBITS was developed for use with students in grades 5-12, while Bounce Back is the adaptation  for younger students (grades K-4).

As Connecticut's CBITS/BB Coordinating Center, CHDI provides training, credentialing, and certification to a network of 33 CBITS and Bounce Back teams serving 100 schools and 12 community-based organizations statewide. Our role also includes ongoing data collection, analysis, and reporting to ensure the models are implemented as intended and supporting providers in quality improvement.

The FY 2025 CBITS and Bounce Back Annual Report summarizes the work and outcomes of these Connecticut providers during state fiscal year 2025 (July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025).

Overall, CBITS and Bounce Back services continued to see positive results in terms of access, quality, and outcomes for Connecticut children and families in FY 2025. Below are a few highlights:

Key Recommendations in this year's report:

  • Identify and implement strategies to engage more CBITS-age youth, with particular attention to increasing the number of male youth served. This will include collaborating with the CBITS network to identify successful interventions and disseminating targeted resources to support clinicians in engaging and working with adolescent boys.

  • Increase the number of children screened for trauma in CBITS and Bounce Back through targeted goal setting with teams. Additionally, improve data collection by modifying the CBITS and Bounce Back survey tool to improve usability and be less time-intensive for clinicians.

  • Examine the factors contributing to a lower percentage of children in CBITS successfully completing treatment. 78.4% of CBITS participants completed treatment in FY25, compared to more than 86% of BB participants. While this is still a strong completion rate, we want to better understand the reasons behind the difference in age groups and collaborate with CBITS teams to identify and implement practices that enhance client engagement, promote treatment completion, and address barriers to care.

CHDI is proud to partner with this talented network of CBITS and Bounce Back providers dedicated to helping children and youth who have experienced trauma recover and thrive.
