About this course

This training is an introduction to the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) in Health and Healthcare framework developed by the Office of Minority Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. 

This training will provide the learner with the skills to implement the CLAS Standards in their work with children and families. These standards are relevant to any health or human service organization committed to equitable care.

Course modules

  • Module 1: Review purpose and Learning Objectives
  • Module 2: History and evolution of the National CLAS Standards
  • Module 3: Connecticut’s CLAS history and progress
  • Module 4: Identify the three CLAS theme areas of leadership, communication and engagement, review of 15 CLAS Standards and their applications

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Describe the history and evolution of the National CLAS Standards.
  2. Identify and explain the 15 CLAS Standards, organized within three thematic areas of leadership, communication and engagement.
  3. Understand the importance of CLAS in reducing health disparities.
  4. Apply implementation strategies that align with organizational goals and community needs.
  5. Explore Connecticut’s role and progress in promoting CLAS-aligned systems and services.
  6. Practice identifying CLAS-aligned interventions through case examples and reflection activities.

Instructor

Cecilia Frometa, PhD, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor of Child Psychology at Yale University School of Medicine and serves as core faculty in the Psychology Section of the Yale Child Study Center, where she has made significant contributions to advancing racially and culturally responsive care. She is a member of Connecticut's Statewide Cultural and Linguistic Appropriate Services Advisory Council (SCAC).

 

Register for Course

 

This program has been approved to provide 2.0 Cultural Competence Continuing Education Credit Hours by the National Association of Social Workers, CT and meets the continuing education criteria for Social Work Licensure renewal. Approval also meets the continuing education criteria for CT LMSWs, LMFTs, LPCs, and licensed psychologists.
