The Overview of Developmental Disabilities course provides a comprehensive introduction to various developmental disabilities, exploring their characteristics and the impact on individuals and families. Through this course, learners will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with developmental disabilities, the concept of neurodivergence, and the importance of supportive interventions, including motivational interviewing, Positive Behavioral Support, Functional Assessment of Behavior, and other proactive and reactive approaches.
About the Instructor
Dr. Peter Tolisano has extensive experience providing counseling, consultations, and assessments. He focuses on expressive and supportive psychotherapy with adults. He is also employed as an administrator, where he interfaces with state agencies, private providers, and national entities. He is Board Certified as a Clinical Psychologist through the American Board of Professional Psychology, which is a rigorous voluntary process that demonstrates advanced competence in his specialty. Additionally, he is on the National Register of Health Service Psychologists. Dr. Tolisano has treated individuals with a wide array of mental health and substance abuse issues. He has worked in inpatient and outpatient programs across institutional and community settings. Dr. Tolisano taught college courses for many years and served as a field supervisor for doctoral students.
