About This Training

2 CECs

School refusal can be driven by a desire to avoid negative emotional states and/or to seek attention and rewards. This behavior may or may not be accompanied by a behavioral health condition. In order to properly address school refusal, clinicians need to begin with a functional understanding of school refusal behavior.

This course will introduce the learners to the four functional profiles of school refusal. We will also address common obstacles to school attendance, the use of behavior management strategies, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on school attendance, and the importance of consultation with schools/medical/mental health professionals.

Instruction will include lecture, case presentations, and the opportunity for case reflections.
