School-Based Diversion Initiative Family Well-being Resources
Shareable digital resources to support family well-being.
Family engagement is a key part of the School-Based Diversion Initiative (SBDI), which partners with schools and districts to reduce suspensions, expulsions, and arrests among students with behavioral health needs. These one-page resources are designed for school staff to share with families and caregivers at SBDI schools and can be used to support all children and families, regardless of behavioral health needs. The following resources are included in the download:
- Tips for Talking to Your Child About the Dangers of Substance Use and Vaping (English)
- Tips for Building Healthy Media Habits for Your Child (English & Spanish)
- Tips for Talking to Your Child About Their Mental Health (English & Spanish)
- Tips for Using Restorative Approaches with Your Child (English & Spanish)
- Youth Behavioral Health Resources and Contact Information (English & Spanish)
Feel free to print these resources and hand them out or share them via your school's digital communication platforms!
The School-Based Diversion Initiative was co-developed in 2008 by CHDI, the Court Support Services Division (CSSD) of the Judicial Branch, and the Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) with funding from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. SBDI implementation is now jointly funded and overseen by CSSD, the State Department of Education (SDE), and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS). CHDI is the state Coordinating Center for SBDI.
