Trauma and the School Responder Model: Tip Sheet Series for Educators

CHDI and the National Center for Youth Opportunity and Justice jointly published a Trauma and the School Responder Model - Tip Sheet Series for Educators.

The three tip sheets are designed to help educators understand trauma and how it can manifest in student behaviors, as well as emphasize the importance of incorporating a trauma-informed perspective into school responder models.

Youth who have been exposed to trauma, those with mental health conditions, and those with substance use disorders are more likely to be subject to exclusionary discipline policies in school. School Responder Models, such as the Connecticut School-Based Diversion Initiative, seek to address behavioral health needs as an alternative to exclusionary school discipline and juvenile justice involvement.
