EARLY DENTAL CARE FOR BETTER ORAL HEALTH

CHDI recognizes the importance of early dental care for children. Unfortunately, there are not enough dental professionals in Connecticut who can treat very young children.

That’s why CHDI works in collaboration with the State Departments of Public Health and Social Services to support early dental services in pediatric primary care.

We do this through the Educating Practices program, by visiting practices and training them on providing early preventive dental services, including counseling, mouth exams and application of fluoride varnish. We also stress the connection of children to dental homes as soon as possible.

Connecticut is making progress; we are seeing increasing numbers of children younger than age 3 receiving early dental services from their medical home.
